Weekly Update 11/24

Good morning! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! We are going to have a quick week this week!

Monday- C day and Library
Tuesday- D day and our Informational Writing CELEBRATION!! We will sip on some hot chocolate and wear our PAJAMAS as we share our wonderful papers with the other first grade classrooms. I am SO proud with how well this papers are turning out! Way to go!

Writing- Celebrating our informational papers.

Math- We are working on our subtraction as well as practice different facts in a fact family. 

Words their Way- We will take the test on TUESDAY. (check the blog post on the WTW sort if you need any clarification)

Social Studies- We are learning about settlers and the first Thanksgiving!

Weekly Update 11/17

Good Afternoon!
Hope everyone had a great weekend. Can you believe this snow?

Monday- C day and Library
Tuesday- D day
Wednesday- A day
Thursday- B day
Friday- C day

Writing- We had a mini-celebration today over our informational stories. I am so proud of how well they are writing and I am learning more and more each day. 

Math- We started our chapter 4 on subtraction strategies. 

Social Studies- We started our unit on Everything Changes. Where we are talking about the past, present, and future. 

Words their Way- New words are coming home today. Check the blog for the word sorts. 

**I was able to receive CD players with books on tape through our PTO grant. If your child would like to bring in different headphones to use with the CD players that is totally fine. Some are having trouble with putting the ear buds in their ears.**

Thursday, November 20th:  Begin with the End in Mind!
Wear your best “Dress for Success” outfit to show how we are leaders in our school! 

Friday, November 21st:  We are a 2014 National Blue Ribbon School!
All students will be given a Blue Ribbon t-shirt today to wear!

Weekly Update 11/10

Good afternoon!
Hope you all had a wonderful weekend! I enjoyed seeing so many of you all at the Music Program on Sunday. They all did such a great job, Carter thought so too! 

*Big thanks to the chaperones that came on our field trip on Friday. It was a success!*

Writing- We are finishing up this bend with working on creating a Table of Contents for our informational stories.

Math- We are finishing up our unit in Math this week and will probably test on Wednesday.

Reading- We made our monthly goal AGAIN!!!! Way to go!! Keep reading each night and don't forget to write it in your planner, this is how I record our reading goal for our class. 

Words their Way- Don't forget to check the "Words their Way" blog post about how to sort the words. On Friday, we will have our first test over our new words. Students will be expected to write the headings (it, at, ot/ sh, th, wh, ch/ short-a, long-a) and record the word I give them under the correct heading. Each word will be worth 2 points. 1 point for the spelling and 1 point for the word being under the correct sort.

Words their Way

Every two weeks I will be adding a picture of the sort that your student is on and the categories they should be sorting their words. Tests will be on Fridays.

Weekly Update 11/3


I hope everyone enjoyed their 3 day weekend! It was a busy 4 days that we had but it wouldn't have been as successful without your hard work and dedication, thank you!
Conferences went wonderfully and the kids LOVED the Halloween party! 
Monday- A day and Kids Voting
Tuesday- B day and PTO meeting
Wednesday- C day
Thursday- D day and Library
Friday- A day, picture re-take day (will be allowed to take first thing in the morning), and FIELD TRIP!! 
Sunday- Music Program 1:45-2:15! Check out this preview of the students performance! I can't wait to see all their hard work in this musical! 1st Grade Gregston Video Link

Field Trip Information
-T-shirts will be delivered this week and will be ready for the students to put on over their clothes on Friday before we leave. 
-All students must bring their lunch to school in a bag that can be thrown away. Depending on the temperature, we may eat their or since this is during our lunch period, we will eat in the classroom. Choice 3 on our lunch menu will be available to order as well.
-Please be sure to dress your students accordingly to the weather. Tennis shoes and jackets will be important!
-Chaperones- The transportation museum limits us on our chaperones so each class is allowed to have 3 per class. I have picked the 3 in which I received first. Don't forget, we will have other field trips for you all to chaperone on too! 
-If you have not paid for our field trip please do so as soon as possible! I can definitely send home another permission slip if needed. 

Math- We are continuing to work on our doubles facts!

Social Studies- We are finishing up our unit this week!

Spelling- On Monday, you will receive a parent letter on our Words their Way unit as well as a list of words. Tests will be every 2 weeks!

Reading- Continue to read each night. Don't forget to write in your reading log as well as use that green handout I gave you all at conferences.
